For the Awards to be presented in 2026 and 2027, the jury is chaired by the Trustee and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Jorge Álvares Foundation, Dr Jorge Hagedorn Rangel, with General Trustee Tiago Vasconcelos serving as Vice-Chair, and comprises a further five members of recognised merit and prestige, both national and international, appointed by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, upon the proposal of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Jury:

Chair:
Jorge Hagedorn Rangel, Trustee and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Jorge Álvares Foundation, President of the International Institute of Macao, President Emeritus of the Historical Society of the Independence of Portugal and former member of the Macao Government.

Vice-Chair:
Tiago Almeida Vasconcelos, Trustee of the Jorge Álvares Foundation, General of the Portuguese Army (retired), Visiting Professor at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon and at the European University, a researcher with published studies and works on topics of International Relations and on contemporary China.

Members:
António Costa Silva, former Minister of Economy of the Government of the Portuguese Republic, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, President of civil society institutions and a prominent and respected thinker on the challenges of the future.

Francisco A. da Roza, an active member of civil society organisations and former President of the Club Lusitano de Hong Kong, a century-old and iconic cultural and recreational association, and Curator at the Hong Kong Museum of History of the exhibition “Estórias Lusas”.

Francisco Gomes da Costa, President of the Royal Portuguese Reading Room in Rio de Janeiro and of the Luís de Camões Association, and former President of the Federation of Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian Associations of Brazil and of the Portuguese Literary Lyceum of Rio de Janeiro.

Rui Paulo da Silva Martins, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Macau, former Director of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, former President of the Association of Portuguese-Speaking Universities and Member of the Academy of Sciences.

Zhang Fangfang, Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the School of Hispanic and Portuguese Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University; she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Language from the Communication University of China, a Master’s degree in Media Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

The jury reserves the right to award the Prize jointly to two institutions or works, as well as to withhold the Prize in the event that projects or works submitted are deemed to lack the minimum standard of quality or fail to meet the objectives underlying the Prize’s establishment;

The Jury decides by majority vote, with the Chair having the casting vote in the event of a tie amongst the members present;

Meetings may be held in person or online, and minutes must be drawn up for each meeting;

The Jury’s decision is final and shall be announced within a maximum of four months following the deadline for the submission of applications;

The composition of the Jury is reviewed every two years, although its members may be reappointed without any limit on the number of terms they may serve.
